Gandhi Seva Loka
We are here to serve the Loka — the Sindhi Community of Indonesia
A community-driven organization dedicated to empowering the Sindhi community through
Selfless service, Quality education & Cultural preservation.
Our Story
A Legacy Rooted in Service, Growing with Purpose
Gandhi Seva Loka began its journey in 1947 as the Bombay Merchants Association (BMA), founded by visionary elders of the Sindhi community in Jakarta.
Born in the wake of India’s independence, the association was grounded in the values of unity, brotherhood, and the urgent need to provide quality education for future generations.
In 1992, BMA was formally renamed Perhimpunan Gandhi Seva Loka, marking a new era of structured service and expanded purpose.
With a stronger identity and deeper roots in Indonesian society, GSL became the steward of several educational institutions — including the Gandhi Memorial Schools in Jakarta — that continue to serve thousands of students today.
But education was only the beginning.
Over the decades, GSL’s mission has grown to encompass social welfare, cultural preservation, religious programs, and support for the elderly — reflecting its commitment to holistic community well-being.
Through Graha Sindhu and other community spaces, GSL brings people together across generations, guided always by the spirit of Seva — selfless service.
Today, Gandhi Seva Loka stands as a living bridge between heritage and progress, dedicated to uplifting the Sindhi community of Indonesia with integrity, compassion, and purpose.
